There is the awkward silence quiet, the kind where there's something hanging in the air between the two, and it's unresolved and both are somewhat afraid of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, and so both reserve speech, perpetuating the quiet and isolating themselves further from each other. Then there's the other kind of quiet, the good quiet. The kind of quiet that comes when you know you can be comfortable in the presence of another without having to speak. The kind of quiet that reminds you that the other person can still know you even in your silence, can still care and, in a sense, read into your quiet to see what else is going on. So whether the quiet lasts long, or ends quickly, I'll be here listening. I’ve often thought about the quiet that can pass between two who are good friends.
